Thanks to the Experience Works program Eleutherian has a new employee. Phil Land joined Eleutherian on September of 2006. His first weekend of work was during our Gathering. Needless to say Mr. Land had a baptism by fire. It was sink or swim and Mr. Land swam! Eleutherian would be unable to function if it were not for the Experience Works program. Phil has brought his creative flair to Eleutherian, especially in creating the displays for the new Hoyt / UGRR center. |

The Tibbets / Tibbetts family also over ran Lancaster as in days of yore. The list from John H. Tibbets included: Majorie Tibbets Kendall , her daughters and granddaughters. James & Thomas Gordon, brothers from Kansas. Joan Tibbets Hudson and her niece . Steve Cox also made the visit. Representing Joshua Tibbetts ,was Carole Tibbetts McConnell. Daniel Dunham and his lovely wife also stopped by. Daniel is related to the Dunham and Judkins. Among the hectic hustle and bustle of our annual Gathering ,there were a few surprises. The first was a visit from Sheila Kell and her mother, Frances “Stewart” Smith. Frances is 86 years young, and I do mean young. She is so full of life. Sheila and her mother one day plan on returning to the area to live. It was a delight to sit upon the porch of the Hoyt visitor center and discuss the family line. Sheila has also taken over the Jennings County GenWeb site. Sheila is a family researcher from Indianapolis. Her family lines includes : |

The Beatty Family A visitation from sisters Cynthia Ashby, Sandy Dawkins, and their mother Ruby Brightwell, has led to never before information involving a black family of Jefferson County. The Beatty family, who first settle the South Hanover area around the year 1820. More research is being uncovered and we plan on covering more as the story develops. We promise historians this will be worth the wait. |

Historic Eleutherian College, Inc. is currently in the process of an establishing endowment. This endowment will be named for Eleanor Virginia Hoyt Musick , a descendant of Lyman Hoyt. At the time of her passing, it was decided by her family to start such an endowment. This endowment will help Historic Eleutherian to operate and sufficiently run for years to come. Endowments are set up to keep sites in operation long after original board members have passed. What is an endowment? An endowment is created when a donor or group of donors make a significant contribution for a specific purpose. Examples of these would be faculty support, research support, supporting programs and events. The future running of Eleutherian and sites depend upon this future endowment. Money is not the only thing that can be contributed to an endowment. Property can also be donated. Please consider us in you wills. |
